STRESS reduction and an active lifestyle was the focus of the day when a local gym linked up with a computing giant to promote health and wellbeing to its employees.
As both companies are based at Birchwood Park, Warrington, Alive & Well Gym joined forces with Hewlett Packard (HP) for the company’s Health and Wellbeing Day. Fitness instructor Matt Percy hosted a talk and answered questions from HP staff about stress management and exercise.
Matt said: “A healthy lifestyle and exercise in particular can contribute greatly to reducing your stress levels. It’s particularly important for office workers, who may be fairly inactive throughout their working day, to incorporate some form of physical activity into their lives. This can be anything from cycling to work, an exercise class, an army-style boot camp or a session in the gym.
“It’s fantastic that HP is focussed on promoting health and wellbeing to its employees and we were delighted to help out during their Health Week. At Alive & Well, we pride ourselves on our welcoming atmosphere. Whether you work or live in the Birchwood or wider area, we cater for all adult age groups and levels of fitness.”
The seminar was one of a number of initiatives at the HP office on the day. Others include free health checks, seminars on nutrition and quitting smoking and a lunchtime guided cycle ride. Free pedometers were also given to staff who wanted to take up the “Wellness challenge”, to track and monitor individual fitness challenges via a website set up by HP.
Nigel Freestone, who coordinated the event, said: “The day was a great success and lots of employees took part. Our health and wellbeing initiatives are ongoing and we have more activities planned throughout the year. We’re grateful to Alive & Well for their support and hope to get them involved in future events.”
Alive & Well has over 30 studio classes as well as outdoor boot camp sessions. On and off peak memberships are available, priced from just £17 per month. New members joining can still get 13 months for the price of 12 and will receive three free guest passes.
