Celebrities have for some time extolled the virtues of a bootcamp approach to fitness. From Davina McCall to the likes of Cameron Diaz and even Madonna, beautiful people on both sides of the Atlantic understand that when it comes to staying in shape, it’s a case of “no pain – no gain”.
These rigorous training packages can often come at a cost prohibitive to the non-celebrity purse. But the Alive and Well health and fitness centre at MEPC Birchwood Park has just launched a free bootcamp programme accessible to all from the local community as well as those who work on the park.
The free six week bootcamp, comprises a gruelling, twice-weekly, 45 minute, outdoor, all-weather circuit training.
Said Alive and Well manager, Karen Dennett: “A cross-section of people from the local community as well as MEPC Birchwood Park have signed up. Some were looking for extra motivation to get in shape. Others wanted a change to their usual gym routine. All are getting a shock to the system – in a good way!
“Alive and Well’s free bootcamp is a brilliant way for people to elevate themselves to a new level of fitness, ambition and indeed general self-confidence.
“All of these are priceless attributes across all aspects of life, including work, and so it is great to see so many park occupants, as well as members of the local community, among the camp members!”
Alive & Well’s bootcamp is being supported by MEPC Birchwood Park managing director, Jonathan Walsh, who himself is a bit of a hard-nut when it comes to personal fitness. Last year, he cycled 500km from London to Paris, raising nearly £13,000 for the Birchwood Community.
